Salsa Turkey Burger with Avocado


7 oz lean ground turkey

1 Tbs of salsa, look for a variety that has no added sugar

½ tsp cayenne pepper (if you are using a “hot” salsa, this ingredient can be omitted)

½ Tbs chopped fresh cilantro

½ medium ripe avocado, sliced

½ medium tomato, sliced

Romaine lettuce leaves

Lime juice (optional)



Preheat grill pan over medium-high heat. Combine turkey, salsa, cayenne pepper (if using), and cilantro. Mix well and form into two patties.  Grill for about 6 to 7 minutes on each side until no longer pink in the middle or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. Place on a serving plate and top with lettuce, avocado, and tomato. Squeeze optional lime juice over the avocado. Serve alone or with your choice of whole wheat bread.
